National Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ), Plateau state chapter and search for common ground(SFCG), said as mothers were concerned about stability of peace in the state as 23rd March governorship supplementary elections depends.

The duo rejected use of military personnel during the re-run elections as their presence in the previously polls causes alot of problem in most communities.


According to the chairperson of NAWOJ Plateau state chapter, Jennifer Yerima, while briefing Journalists at NUJ Secretariat in Jos said" the search for Common Ground (SFCG) and women Journalists in Plateau state collectively call for peaceful conclusion of the re-run th is transparent, credible and acceptable to all devoid of any violent reactions."

She affirmed that  we, women Journalists in Plateau use this forum to assure that we shall follow the ethics of our profession in doing the right thing."we assure that our reports will be objective, fair and balanced.

"We hereby say 'No' to hate speech, fake news or the publication of election result not confirmed by the Independent National Electoral commission."she mentioned.

NAWOJ further appeal to security operatives to be deployed to the various polling booths on Saturday to be fair to all and not to take sides with any political party, but to ensure the exercise is orderly and peaceful.

"We call on parents, particularly mothers, to educate their children on the need for peace and tranquility before,during and after the re-run election.

"Youths in particular must be made aware of the fact that there is nothing to gain in violence, more so since no politician will provide arms and ammunition for his or her children to engage in political thuggery.

They equally charged political actors, community and religion leaders to admonished their followers and subjects to tow the path of peace throughout the re-run election.

" For us  in Plateau state, the re-run election is part of the democratic process and the state will  remain long after the election. Remember, elections come and go but Plateau state will remain." Yerima concluded.
