A Senator representing Plateau southern senatorial district, Ignatius Longjan has described a fire inferno in Qua'an-Pan and flood disaster in Shendam Local Government Areas as serious calamity and devastating.

The fire outbreak which occurred in st.virgilius memorial hospital of st.johnbosco parish Namu at Qua'an-Pan Local Government Area recently left community members in a sorry state as the hospital is only one which people on that axis normally have access to.

According to Senator Longjan"the purpose of my visit is to sympathized with people over what happened and we Can't blame God.

"It is a very serious calamity because this is where sick people are receiving treatment.

"So you can see the level of damage. It is something that we can do collectively by coming together and put ourselves together because it affects everybody,"Longjan stressed.

However, our correspondent learned that some units in the hospital totally burnt down including other sensitive materials and the only solution for the hospital to get back to its actual pace again is rebuilding.

Speaking on the sad event, hospital administrator Janet Waziri revealed the incident occurred on 22nd August, 2019 as a result of electricity spark from solar system in the hospital which lead to the battery.

"Data room, scanning room, delivery room, out of patient department, consultancy room as well as pharmacy department were affected by the inferno.

"We recorded 30 patient and some times less than that on a daily basis" She added.

In his part, the parish priest of St. Johnbosco Rev. Father Mathew chanshilip appreciate Senator Longjan for identifying with them and called on other spirited individual and groups to raise to the occasion of rebuilding the hospital to save humanity.

Senator Longjan further extent his visit to Shendam Local Government Area where heavy downpour damaged farmlands in some communities few weeks back.

While handing over the document on disaster assessment to the Senator at the Local Government Secretariat, chairman of Shendam LGA, Alex Miskoom who was represented by his deputy William narrated that as soon as flood occurred the management of the Local Government quickly informed the state emergency management agency (SEMA) and National emergency management agency (NEMA for assistance.

Accordingly the LGC constituted assessment team and based on the reports gather in the process of assessment conducted show that farmlands worth about seventy million Naira(N70million Naira) in communities such as Shimankar, Dokan Tofa, Angwan Rina, Angwan Dadi and Kallum respectively was devastated.

Also the district head of Dokan Tofa, HRH James Langkwap and his counterpart village head of Dorok in Kallum HRH Gabriel Sallah charged the law maker(Longjan) to work out modalities by ensuring fertilizer is made available to affected victims to enable them plant and gain something before rainy season runs out.

The monarchs also draw his attention on the issue of youth employment, most especially in the area para military such as civil defense, immigration,custom.

Receiving assessment document from the LGA, Senator Longjan apologize for his inability to show up on time when unfortunate incident occurred due to tight schedule.

He assured that as an elective representative which his major role is law making, oversight function and lobbying, noting to get back to the people after studying the report and also make sure he gives his constituency what ever belongs to them when opportunities arise.
