Some elders of the People's Democratic Party, PDP in Plateau  on Thursday  condemned a statement issued by factional Chairman of the party in the state  on Wednesday describing it as provocative and in contradiction of the official position of the party.

A statement by the convener, RTD Captain Gambo Damdam, said their position is based on a prior ruling of a competent court of law against the Chris Hassan led faction.

Damdam made reference to a statement by the  National Publicity Secretary of the PDP,  Kola Ologbondiyan, issued on Saturday, affirming it would abide by the ruling of the court, with respect to the dispute in the Plateau State chapter of the party.

Furthermore, the national leadership of the PDP in the statement urged  members and  supporters to remain calm and continue to work together, particularly for the success of the party in the forthcoming senatorial bye-election in the state.

Justice S P Gang of the Plateau state High Court had on November 26 2020, ruled that it was unconstitutional and illegal for the National Secretariat of the PDP to extend the tenure of the Yakubu Chocho-led Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Plateau State chapter beyond August ten, two thousand and twenty.

It also directed that procedure to conduct election for executive members of the party in accordance to relevant constitutions, should commence.

Therefore, for anyone to sign a purported statement on behalf of the party, the party elders emphasized, is not only  contemptuous, but  capable of exposing the state chapter to ridicule.
