The Commander Special Task Force (STF), Operation Safe Haven, commanding Plateau state and other parts of Bauchi and Southern Kaduna, Major. Gen. Dominic Onyemelu, stated that anyone caught in illegal imposition of firearms will be shot at sight.

Onyemelu made the assertion on the heels of renewed attacks that greeted Dong Kasa and Kwi communities last weekend, as he engaged stakeholders across the 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State in an emergency meeting on Thursday in Jos.

Reports have it that last Sunday 23/5/2021, in Dong Kasa community of Jos North and Kwi village in Riyom, suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded the two communities at night and killed 15 persons.

In his remarks the commander emphasized that “any community that we hear gunshots STF will go there and anywhere the weapons are hidden, it must be found at all cost or the Community leaders will be held responsible”.

He said he wondered why people that have been leaving peacefully in the same community for years will resort to killing each other like animals.

According to him, "we have come to realize that it is during the farming season that the tension between farmers and herders escalate and killings arise from disputes”.

Onyemelu charged community leaders to be more proactive by resolving dispute amicably in their various community levels, warned that any act of criminality and violence will not be tolerated by the command any more.

  • "The command is battle-ready to fish out all the culprits and it will no longer tolerate how communities hide bad eggs perpetrating the heinous crimes."
