In an efforts to boost agriculture for efficient food security, the Federal ministry of agriculture in collaboration with PS Master Nigeria Ltd has kick started wheat planting in Plateau State with about 1,000 hectares of lands allocation.

Flagging the 2023/2024 wheat planting season on Monday in Shen community, Jos South Local Government Area of the state,Chief Samuel Pukat, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, PS Master food Nigeria said wheat as a cash crop has taking position in line with president Ahmed Bola Tinubu philosophy of revolutionizing agricultural sector.

"President Tinubu has match his words with by diversifying the economy into agriculture from oil.He mentioned about four (4) crops which includes; wheat, cassava, rice and Maize.

"Today, we have come to make sure that his spoken words is acted upon. Through the minister of agriculture who always want to focus and making sure that what Mr. President declared public has come to passed.Presently as you can see what is happening here is happening all over the Federation where the wheat is now the beginning of all this projects from the four areas."

The MD further confirmed that, "we have about 500 hectares that is allocated to us for our farmers. As you can see this one that is flag up we have about 13,000 hectares of farms which is the farm for any kind of crops it will enter there.So, as you can see we have started today and the planting continue so that in the next three months when we come back here, we will tell Mr president that behold that which you have during your campaign is now visible.

"In my site here is 500 hectares and there is another 500 hectares at the  other site making 1,000 hectares that is allocated to Plateau state.

 Secretary of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Plateau State chapter, Da Pam Bot revealed the wheat planting is pilot project that started in the state through PS Master food Nigeria Ltd.
 "AfAN as a body are encouraging farmers all over the state to key into the project because there are specific areas that the Federal Government after doing field analysis have indicated interest.

"Federal Government have approved about 1,000 hectares, and now were starting with 500 hectares the other 500 hectare is coming. There are about four different types of crops that the Federal Government has approved for us to have on the Plateau here, that is the wheat, rice, maize and cassava.

"Were now starting with wheat because the duration for wheat if we do not start it now it will be late. Anything from the 15/12/2023 is already late.

"We thank God for all the inputs which we have seen them. So all farmers on the Plateau those that would key in are expected to registered their name, LGA, contact number. The project is very good and genuine", the chief scribe of AFAN stated.
