The Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, John Christopher has presented a whooping sum of ₦9,491,612,963.41 billion as appropriation bill for the 2025 fiscal year.
Presenting the budget tagged" budget of purposeful leadership" on Thursday at the legislative chamber of the council Secretariat,Christopher acknowledged the budget represents" our collective aspirations for a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable Jos North. Since assuming office, we have engaged with stakeholders, assessed our facilities, and laid a solid foundation for a transparent and accountable governance structure.
He said the recurrent expenditure is: ₦6,376,887,435.89 while capital expenditure stand at: ₦2,143,783,965.48 and liabilities: ₦1,065,000,000.00 as the budget prioritizes health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, and security.
According to him, "The budget will be executed in four strategic phases:First Quarter (January – March 2025): Begin construction of new Primary Healthcare Centres and procure essential equipment.Launch skills acquisition programs and disburse entrepreneurship grants.Commence road rehabilitation and market upgrades.
"Second Quarter (April – June 2025):
Implement the “Safe School Initiative” and distribute digital learning tools.Provide fertilizers, seeds, and training to farmers.Strengthen local security frameworks with community-based surveillance programs.
"Third Quarter (July – September 2025):Open vocational training centers and expand microcredit programs.Upgrade public utilities, including water and electricity.
"Fourth Quarter (October – December 2025):Complete ongoing road and healthcare projects.Review and publish project performance reports.Finalize infrastructure projects and assess the impact of educational and agricultural initiatives. Deploy technology-driven revenue collection solutions.
He urged the legislative arm to grant prompt approval of the budget to enable his administration to commence implementation in earnest for the benefit of present and future generations.
Leader of Jos North legislative arm, Hon. Job Izang promised to ensure proper scrutiny and passage of the budget on time.
Earlier before the budget presentation, the speaker Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan alongside Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Ephraim Usman commission's the remodeled Jos North legislative chamber for effective legislative activities.
Our correspondent learned that the council chairman hosted a maiden Christmas Carol and nine lessons.
