Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil, has pledged  full-time scholarship  to the best graduating students of his constituency as part of his commitment to promoting academic excellence and investing in the future of the youth .

He made this known during the maiden Speech and Prize Giving Day, Magazine Launch, and Appeal Fundraising Ceremony and the furnishing of the Corps Members’ Lodge and Library of Government Secondary School Piapung, held at the school premises in Mikang Local Government Area.

Rt. Hon. Gapyil, who was the Chairman of the occasion, used the opportunity to encourage students to take their academics seriously, noting that education remains the most potent tool for empowerment and community development. 

Represented   by his Senior Legislative Aide Alfred Kungrap,the Speaker emphasized the importance of girl-child education, stressing that empowering the girl-child through education is critical to building a more inclusive and progressive society.

The Speaker commended management of the school and staff for their dedication and expressed delight at the strides the institution has made despite numerous challenges. 

He assured them of his continuous support in providing the enabling environment for teaching and learning.

The event also featured a keynote address by Prof. Longmam Pienswang, who served as the Guest Speaker. 

In his remark, Prof. Pienswang highlighted the role of education in transforming societies and called for collaboration among stakeholders to bridge infrastructural and learning gaps in rural schools.

The Executive Chairman of Mikang Local Government Council, Hon. Bernard Alkali, and the Long Piapung, His Royal Highness,  Lawrence Nashel attended the occasion alongside other dignitaries from various walks of life.

In his welcome address, Principal of Government Secondary School Piapung, Habila Dakas, expressed gratitude to the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, other stakeholders for their presence and support. 

He enumerated some of the school’s pressing needs and appeal for support from stakeholders and other illustrious sons and daughters. 

Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of prizes to outstanding students, unveiling of the school magazine, cultural displays by students, and the appeal fund launch which received generous contributions from guests in support of the Corpers Lodge and school library project.
