The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil, launched the distribution of fertilizer across the four districts of Mikang Local Government Area on Saturday, August 9, 2025. The ceremony took place in Tunkus, the local government headquarters.

Speaker Gapyil explained that providing fertilizer at no cost aims to complement and encourage the people's efforts, as well as practicalize his policy of boosting agricultural production. He thanked Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his love for the people of Mikang and acknowledged that the initiative was made possible by the governor's approval.

The Speaker outlined modalities for the distribution, directing that the commodity be shared equitably across the local government without discrimination.Beneficiaries include development organizations, security outfits, traditional rulers, village heads, religious leaders, community leaders, stakeholders, and political party officials.

Rt. Hon. Daniel thanked former chairmen, traditional rulers, and citizens for their consistent support and appreciated his colleagues for entrusting him with the leadership of the House. Describing himself as "a child of necessity," he thanked God for the opportunity to serve as Speaker.

The Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Owen Dagogot, assured the people of Mikang of the House's unwavering support. Chairman Hon. Bernard Alkali praised the Speaker's inclusive leadership, while Hon. Augustine Bako commended the Speaker's unity-driven leadership and establishment of a scholarship scheme.

The Long Tehl, Mishkagam Barr. Donald Puntel, represented by the Mwo-Ywom of Garkawa {AIG RTD} Bashir Makama Emmanuel Dabup-III, assured the Speaker of traditional rulers' support and cautioned against commodity diversion. Apostle Peter Zemyem expressed gratitude on behalf of beneficiaries, noting the inclusion of religious leaders was a first for the locality.

The event was attended by former chairmen, commissioners, party officials, traditional rulers, and others. The highlight was the symbolic presentation of fertilizer to beneficiaries.
