The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Worldwide, has expressed deep concern over Nigeria's worsening security crisis, particularly the targeted attacks on Christian communities, clergy, worshippers and well-meaning Nigerians.
ECWA denomination said they were shocked by the January 18, 2026, abduction of worshippers in Kurmin Wali, Kaduna State, describing it as a sacrilegious and barbaric act.
A statement signed and issued to Acenews online on Friday in Jos by the ECWA president, Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat, lament that ECWA has suffered greatly, with pastors, church workers, and members facing violent attacks, kidnappings, displacement, and loss of life.
According to him, prior to January, 18th, 2026 invasion of Kurmin Wali, Kaduna State, "approximately one hundred ECWA members from the Kwassam District Church Council, thirty from the Saminaka District Church Council in Kaduna, and thirty from Kabba DCC in Kogi State were already held captive by kidnappers, with families facing exorbitant ransom demands.
"Numerous ECWA District Church Councils remain under severe threat, including those in Katari and Gidan Waya (Kaduna State); Katsina South (Katina State), Patigi, Omu-Aran, and Ora-Ago (Kogi); Igbaja (Kwara); Gwol and Mangu (Plateau); and Shiroro (Niger) States", Bagat revealed.
The ECWA president task government at all levels to take decisive action, including:
enhance intelligence gathering and early-warning systems,
ensure effective and rapid responses to threats, especially in vulnerable rural communities,
swiftly and transparently prosecute perpetrators and their sponsors as well as Provide adequate protection for places of worship and other soft targets.
The church is also urging Nigerians to foster unity, shared vigilance, and peaceful coexistence, and to cooperate with security agencies to resist criminal elements.
"ECWA stands in solidarity with all victims of insecurity and encourages Nigerians to hold fast to their faith, citing Psalm 34:19.that “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him from them all.”
"ECWA reaffirms its commitment to prayer, peacebuilding, advocacy, and practical support for the affected communities", the president assured.
