Turu United football club of Vwang District, Jos South local government area of Plateau State, has emerged champion of the Vwang peace and unity football tournament for the second consecutive season.

Turu United FC defeated their opponents Vwang Central FC by a long goal (1-0 )in the 59 minutes of the second half to claim the trophy.

With this victory,Turu United FC maintain their dominance as the defending champions having won the first edition.
The grand finale of Vwang peace and unity football tournament which held on Sunday 11th January, 2026, at Vwang Central football field drawn thousands of spectators across the length and breath of Plateau and beyond.

Our correspondent reports that the tournament been spearheaded by Dr. Gyang Bere, the Director of press and public affairs to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, adjudged to be a viable platform for discovering and exposing young talents.

This is evidently clear because over the years, the tournament has produced outstanding players who are currently featuring in reputable football teams within and outside Nigeria.
Speaking during the grand finale encounter, Dr. Gyang Bere confirmed that the initiative aims to engage youths on profitable venture for peace and sustainable development in tandem with Governor Mutfwang's administration driven philosophy.

He said the governor has continues demonstrating unwavering commitment towards investing on the youths in different platforms to excel and become a responsible community leaders.

"The tournament was conceived to bring together talented youths across Vwang District, promote peace, unity, and social cohesion, while also championing the fight against drug abuse within the community and beyond", Bere stated.
He also acknowledged the unflinching support and contributions of his principal (Governor Caleb Mutfwang), the Plateau State Football Association (PFA) management, ministry of youths and sports development,traditional rulers and stakeholders of Vwang District as well as the general public for their unwavering commitment to peace, unity, youth development, and communal harmony.

Dignitaries present at the epoch making grand finale encounter of the Vwang peace and unity football tournament are; Da Gyang Dudu, president of Berom Education and Cultural Organisation (BECO), Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, Chairman Jos South LGA, Dr. Jim Wayes, Chairman Plateau State Board of Internal Revenue Service, former chairman of Jos South LGA, Hon. Peter Vwang Dung.
Also present Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)Plateau State Council, comrade Ayuku Pwaspo, chairman Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Plateau State chapter, Alfred Psyche amongst other stakeholders in the football sector all commended Dr. Gyang Bere for the well thought initiative.
