The Plateau State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the leading opposition party in the state, has officially declared its full preparedness to participate in the upcoming Local Government Area (LGA) council elections scheduled to hold later this year.
Recalled the electoral umpire, Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has scheduled September, 2026 as a month for the conduct of elections across the 17 local government councils in the state.
Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday at the State party's secretariat in Jos, the State publicity secretary of the party, Silas Audu Wettok alongside other executives, confirmed that the party is in the final stages of completing its administrative processes to ensure a smooth and credible primary election.
According to Wettok, the party has formally notified its National Headquarters of its intention to participate in the polls. While the National body is yet to release official documents—including the Expression of Interest and Nomination form to the State Chapter, the party expects to receive them imminently.
"We have informed the National Headquarters of our plans. The necessary documents will be made available to us shortly to ensure we meet the timetable released by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), which has slated party primaries to run from 7th March to 12th March 2026," he stated.
The ADC mouthpiece cautioned prospective aspirants against falling victim to fraudulent individuals parading themselves as party agents.
"We want to warn all our aspirants not to allow anyone to deceive them by purchasing forms that are not authorized by the party. Anyone who obtains forms from unauthorized sources does so at their own risk, and the party will not be held responsible for such actions," Wettok mentioned.
He said the party emphasized that any transaction conducted outside its official channels could jeopardize the aspirant’s potential candidacy and urged all members to follow due process.
He further revealed that ADC
clarified that the official nomination forms will only be available at the Party’s State Secretariat.
"Aspirants are advised to visit the following address for verification and collection once the forms are officially released:
ADC State Secretariat
Kalwa Shopping Complex,
Along Yakubu Gowon Way,
Zarmaganda,Jos
Plateau State.
"The party has promised to issue a public announcement regarding the official pricing and guidelines for the forms as soon as they are received from the National Headquarters.
"The ADC called on its members and supporters to remain calm and law-abiding as the party builds momentum toward the elections", he concluded.
