With barely few days to the end of 2026 Ramadan fasting season, Plateau State Government has spent a whooping sun of N300,000.00 million to procured palliative for Muslim Ummah to enhance Eid-el-fitir celebration.
The Eid -el-fitir celebration signals the grand finale of breaking the 30-day Ramadan fasting period in tandem with Islamic doctrine.
Our correspondent reports that the said amounts of money was injected in purchasing assorted food items for onward distribution across the 17 local government areas of Plateau.
The food commodities distributed includes; rice, millets and spaghetti.
The Special adviser to governor Caleb Mutfwang on intergovernmental affairs, Hon. Abubakar Yahaya Kanam who doubled as the chairman Sallah palliative distraction committee on the Plateau made the confirmation on Monday in Jos.
Kanam revealed the beneficiaries were vulnerable women, teeming youths, clergymen.
He said 24 liaison officers earlier appointed by governor Mutfwang from various constituencies of the local government were also engaged in profiling of beneficiaries to enhance transparency and accountability of the palliative distribution.
"Today, were here as the usual norm that every Sallah the good government of plateau state are celebrate and showing mercy, love and benevolence to Muslim of Plateau State by giving us the Muslim of Plateau State some palliative to share showing that we are together as one.
"This year's distribution is quite significant and difference, that every Christmas we realised that the Muslims Ummah also benefits from the Christmas palliative initiative. Christians will benefit from it too", Kanam stated.
The committee chairman further acknowledged the governor has graciously given up to N300 million for this exercise.
According to him, "we are not God, so we cannot capture everybody. But what we can do as a government, we should try as much as possible to do it honestly and diligently.
"As you can see, these grains are not just the only grains here. We are going stage by stage so that we should make sure we capture almost virtually everybody."
He also appeal to the Muslim Ummah to be united as one and accord loyalty and support for the current administration in the state, nothing that the palliative came from the taxpayers' money.
