The Executive Chairman of Shendam local government council of Plateau State, Dr. Nicholas Kemi Nshe, has confirmed that machinery has set in motion towards building hotel accommodation to boost internal generated revenue of the council.
"I am sure that in the
next six months, the Shendam Continental Hotel will be completed. I have paid the contractor about ₦350 million, and between now and next week, I will pay another ₦100 million.
By the grace of God, between now and December, the governor comes for the foundation-laying ceremony.
"The hotel is about 84 rooms, but we have introduced a basement. With the basement, which is underground, it will be close to 100 rooms, with all the facilities you can think of that a hotel should have.By the grace of God, we will get it commissioned within the next six months.
"The funding is from what they give us at the local government level", Nshe revealed.
The Shendam council who spoke to newsmen in Jos recently acknowledged that his administration recorded tremendous achievements in the areas of education, health, sports, infrastural development as well as other sector of the economy.
According to Nshe, " honestly, I can beat my chest and tell anybody, anywhere, that we have not kept our promises to the people. We have done what is expected of us in terms of infrastructure, whether roads, healthcare, social development, sports, agriculture and other aspects. We have tried to touch the primary healthcare system, primary education and so on.
We have done marvellous things for our people. I'm sure that, before now, you may have heard about the stadium. In fact, it was an idea conceived by me.
"Although, after I left office for eight years, it was vandalised, today, I'm sure that if you get there, you will see the standard of work. It is not just a standard facility but one that can compete with others, even beyond the township.
"Our stadium is the second largest after the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos, and work is still ongoing. But I want to assure you that when you get to Shendam Stadium now, you will see the changes.
"Apart from that, we are building a CBT centre, which is costing us about one billion naira. I'm sure we will cast the structure this week, and by next week, before the end of the month, we will be thinking of roofing the CBT centre. It will accommodate up to 250 people and will have other supporting facilities around it.
"Then, apart from that, you can ask your questions. The Shendam Secretariat was built by me. It was almost comatose when I came back, but it has been renovated and brought back to life.
"We have also renovated the Shendam Guest House, built staff quarters for staff and quarters for directors and deputy directors. There are so many things we have done.
"I would therefore invite you, when you go round to see things for yourselves, to look at what we are doing for the people", he noted.
