Supplementary elections commenced on Saturday at 8am in Jos the Plateau state capital, with five to ten Police officers manning each polling unit.

The Plateau Police boss, Issac Akinmoyode, who observed the process at Jenta Adamu 06 Ward, Plateau Hotel Junction code 018, said the process is peaceful and orderly, pledging that security agencies will ensure that there will be no break down of law and order.

Akinmoyode said security agencies will not be partisan but will ensure that hoodlums and political thugs will not have their way.

He regretted the total restriction of movement in the entire state, but said the measure became necessary to prevent criss crossing of miscreants which security reports revealed that are planning to ferment trouble.

Our correspondent who also spoke to a member representing Jos North/Bassa at the National Assembly, Suleiman Kwande, said that voter apathy experienced at the on going election is linked to the cost of travelling for over three times from February 16th to 9th March during the Presidential and Guber polls.

“There are low turn out of voters because people are tired of travelling, adding to the cost of transportation”, Kawnde said.

However, the presiding officer at the Jenta Adamu ward, David Terfa, said there are 853 registered voters at the ward but said the response of electorates is not encouraging.

Terfa said whether people come out to vote or not, voting stops at 2pm.
