The Plateau State Police Command says it has arrested five notorious cattle rustlers who have been on its wanted list and recovered one J5 vehicle loader with seven cows.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Isaac Akinmoyede, disclosed while addressing reporters at the Command’s headquarters in Jos on Thursday.
The commissioner said the police Anti-Robbery Squad made the breakthrough after a tip-off from Bukuru in Jos South Local Government Area of the state.
He said “Around 0030 hours and acting upon a tip-off, the SARS operatives from Bukuru in Jos South LGA, Plateau State arrested five notorious cattle rustlers who have been on the wanted list of the police for some time. A J5 vehicle loaded with seven cattle was recovered from them.
“The suspects during investigation confessed to have rustled the cattle from Binchim village in Bassa LGA of Plateau State. The owner of the cattle, Abdullahi Adamu ‘m’ of Binchim has identified his cattle.
The commissioner gave the names of the arrested suspects as Mohammed Isah of Tilde Fulani in Toro LGA of Bauchi State; Badung Dalyop of the Makera Rahoss area of Riyom LGA of Plateau State; Sanu Mohammed of the Mangu LGA of Plateau State and Mohammed Salisu of the Toro LGA of Bauchi State as well as Abdullahi Idris of the Rayfield area of the Jos South LGA of Plateau State.
According to him, the suspects will appear in court soon.
The commissioner also said the police arrested four notorious armed robbers while trying to rob a shop owner at Nasarawa Gwom within the capital city.
He said, “At about 2045 hrs, Nasarawa Gwong Police Division received a distress call to the effect that some armed robbers were robbing a provision shop of one Musa Dahiru ‘m’ of Rikkos in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
“On the receipt of the report, operatives from the division immediately mobilised to the scene of crime. On arrival, the detectives were able to arrest one Musa Jibrin ‘m’ of Tilde Fulani in the Toro LGA of Bauchi State and one Idris Yakubu ‘m’ of Bassa LGA of Plateau State who robbed their victim of his three hundred and twenty thousand naira only at gun point. Two of their gang members Yahaya Abubakar ‘m’ of Bassa LGA and one Abubakar Ahmed ‘m’ of the same address escaped.
“The case was transferred to the Command SARS whose investigation led to the arrest of these two fleeing suspects. Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one AK47 magazine loaded with thirteen rounds of live ammunition, one AK47 rifle chamber cover and a Toyota Passat motor vehicle with Reg. No DUT 82-CZ.
“Effort is on with a view to arresting the fleeing suspects and recovering the AK47 rifle used for the operation.
The commissioner said the command would not tolerate any act of criminality in the state and warned perpetrators to desist from such acts in their own interests.
