The proposed Karl Kumm University, KKU situated at Vom, Plateau State waits to get final approval as the National Universities Commission, NUC is set to summit its report to the Federal Executive Council for final approval.

This followed a high powered delegation from the Commission which came on final inspection of the proposed institution on Monday, June 22, 2020.

After touring the proposed KKU site with a Landmass of 50.883 hectares, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission NUC, Professor Abubakar Rashid, who was represented by Dr. Chris Maiyaki, explained that the directorate for the establishment of Private Universities will submit their report to the Commission as process demands.

“There are procedures to be followed, once the Directorate for the establishment of Private Universities concludes it assignment, they will submit the report to the Management of the NUC which will then make its own input and then forward it to the University Development Committee of the NUC Board.

The University Development Committee Board will then send it to the board of the NUC in plenary to make its own input and recommendations which will then be forwarded to the Federal Executive Council, FEC, through the Ministry of Education for final approval” Dr. Maiyaki said.

Pleased by level of work at the site, Dr. Maiyaki commended the KKU Implementation Committee and the proprietor for its commitment towards the realization of the University.

The acting Director in charge of the establishment of Private Universities, Mallam Aminu Abba, provided some technical advises to the University management and some recommendations on areas of priority, urging them to put those recommendations in place and report to them on time.

Chairman of the KKU Implementation Committee, Prof. Onazi Ochakpa, informed the NUC team that they have obtained Certificate of Occupancy for the Land signed by the governor of the state, Bank Guarantee of N200 million, Electricity, road network and Water as some of the requirements by the NUC.

The Proprietor of the University, COCIN President, Rev. Dr. Dachollom Datiri who spoke on behalf of the Church, appreciated the team and noted that the Church is building on the legacy of its founding fathers, the likes of Dr. Karl Kumm which the University was name after.

He said the missionaries came with a holistic gospel that provided Health care and social services, Education and Agriculture which brought about the many Clinics and Hospitals, Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools across the county by COCIN and the vision to realize a world class University.

The proposed KKU is seeking approval to kick start the University with two Faculties of Social Sciences and Management, Science and Computer, seven Departments with 14 programs before other faculties will follow subsequently.
