14 December, 2020.

The member representing Jos North West constituency in the Plateau state House of Assembly, Hon. Surv. Esther Simi Dusu, today joined youths from Jenta Adamu, Kabong, Angwan Soya and environs in a protest to call on the attention of the authorities to act on the incessant killing of innocent Nigerians' by reckless Truck drivers plying the Polo round-about.

In a letter addressed to the speaker of the state Assembly Rt. Hon. Ayuba N. Abok, through Hon. Surv. Esther Simi Dusu, for onward transmission, the Youths were unanimous in expressing in their own way and manner the government is handling the issue of safeguarding lives and properties of commuters and pedestrians along that axis with levity.

They recounted how multiple accidents occurred in the first month of December, where heavy duty Trucks ram through smaller vehicles and tricycles, thereby causing sorrow and sadness to many families. Saying that the sad incidents are gradually becoming a daily occurrence if definite action is not taking to avert same.

The Youths thereafter presented a seven (7) point demand to the government, giving three (3) weeks ultimatum, or they will lockdown the entire Polo axis for vehicular activities if there demands are not met. Some of the demands includes the following:

1. Time regulation be applied at locations where such heavy duty Trucks operates.

2. Restriction order be applied where heavy duty vehicle users are not authorized to use.

3. Implementation of barriers across the road to prevent the Trucks from accessing the road till 10pm.

Responding, Hon. Surv. Esther Simi Dusu, appreciates the youths for the courage, endurance, patience and show of maturity and control over the incessant pains being experience because of the Polo round-about. She also expressed satisfaction to the youths for not taken laws into their hands despite repeated calls for action by the affected communities.

Hon. Dusu was full of emotions as she recounted how her sister was crushed to pieces last year at the same Polo round-about and therefore called on the government to do the needful as her constituents are becoming impatient.

Hon. Dusu said she has spoken with the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and he had asked to plead with the youths and represent the motion again on Tuesday 15th December, 2020 during plenary at the floor of the house.

Hon Dusu assured the youths that the Speaker had promised that after re-presenting the second motion, a drastic action will be taken in regards to trucks and their activities at the round about.
