The organized labour under the auspices of Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, have decried payment of half salaries and non implementation of N30,000 minimum wage by the Plateau State Government.

Plateau State chapter of NUT who stage a state wide protests on Wednesday, wearing black attires, carrying placards with different inscriptions said Government are unjust to them over time.

You will recall a week ago NUT issued an ultimatum to Plateau State Government demanding for the implementation of N30,000 minimum wage which has been signed into law, and also to address payment of N9,000 half salaries that the government is paying teachers instead of N18,000.

NUT confirmed that the protests remain the only option following the expiration of one week ultimatum on Wednesday 2nd December, 2020, as government failed to address their pressing demands.

Speaking to our correspondent, Comrade Yakubu Tafiya, auditor ii Plateau State chapter of NUT opines that We have suffered a lot of trauma because of non implementation of N30,000 minimum wage which has been signed into law since. We have been patient! Such to say, that our counterpart in the state are being paid long, long time ago.



 "In fact, it may interest the world to know, that the N18,000 minimum wage was implemented in the state but the Local Government workers was deprived of benefitting from the N18,000 minimum wage.

"Also, it is interested to know that when the issue of N30,000 came up it is implemented in the state but yet we have not enjoy the N18,000 minimum wage. Now it comes to the implementation of N30,000 minimum wage Local Government workers have not benefited from the implementation.

"So, we have patiently waited for over nine years getting to ten years we have been deprived and our counterpart from the state are being paid. Because of that we are now make our voice been heard to the entire nation.

" As you can see we just commence the protest today which is very impressive and we are continue until we hear a positive response from the Government", Tafiya stated.
