The Government of Plateau State on Wednesday, June 9th, 2021 said the death toll in the cholera outbreak in the state had risen to eight.


The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Nimkong Lar, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Jos on Wednesday, also said a total of 512 persons had been infected with the disease.


According to him, out of the total number of infected persons, 484 patients had been discharged from various hospitals where they were receiving treatment.


The Commissioner said, “Right now, we have problem at hand because as at Wednesday, eight persons have died as a result of the cholera outbreak in the state. So far, 512 persons have been infected while 484 of them have been discharged.”


Lar noted that the infected persons were spread across seven local governement areas; Jos North, Jos South, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bassa and Jos East LGAs.


“Even if they tell you that something has been washed, you have to insist on washing it again before you start eating. If there is any noticeable symptom like vomiting and diarrhoea, the affected people should quickly go to the nearest hospital for treatment,” the commissioner advised.
