Alhaji Suleiman Baraya,The spokesperson of the Yelwa community Development Association in Shendam today pleaded with the committee on the review of the Constitution to ensure that Yelwa people of Shendam get a local government of their own to escape from year of marginalization in Shendam local Government.

He pleaded, that they are the proverbial cow that brings the milk but never Taste from it.

"We are over 70,000 as recorded by 2006 census in Yelwa but we don't have a district, for over 2 centuries we have been neglected, since 1824 we have been disregarded with no political appointment if not councillor, most of our lands are taken back controversially even when we use our money to acquire them".

Mr Baraya argued that they command the highest votes in Shendam.

"YELWA is the biggest political ward with over 21,000 registered voters,we are known for always supporting the Gamai Man in any election, we have never voted against the Gamai anytime they are in contest with others, but we have nothing to show for it as we have only one person working in the local government from Yelwa." he argued

He said since the demise of late Adamu Othman , The Sarkin Yelwa who is a salary Chief, some 31 years ago.

The Yelwa people have been left with no King till now.
