There seems to be no end in sight on the upheavals that has engulfed the Labour Party (LP) in Plateau State as a Youth group under the aegis of "LP Youth Vanguard for Justice" has vehemently rejected the substitution of the name of Amb. Yohana M.D. Margif with that of Dr Patrick Dakum as the candidate of the LP gubernatorial and called on the National Secretariat of the party to avoid what might caused failure in 2023 general elections .

The group, which comprises of both Christians and Muslims youth in a statement made available to journalists in Jos on Saturday, strongly advised the party  to maintain the status quo and allow Amb. Margif to fly the party ticket in 2023.

The statement which is signed by Danjuma Bulus and Abdullahi Mohammad, Coordinator and Secretary of the group respectively,  stated that they were highly surprised with the new development in Plateau state were some desperate politician are embarking on cheap blackmail and propaganda to achieve their selfish agenda.

According to the group, "this development won't bring progress to the party if the idea is allowed to continue and as staunch members of the party, we only recognized Amb.Yohanna Margif as the sole candidate of LP in the governorship election in 2023" .

The group further condemned in the strongest term, politics of character assassination by supporters of Dr. Dakum noting that such acts have the tendency of affecting the presidential flag bearer of the LP, Peter Obi.

The group further noted that majority members of the LP in  Plateau state have expressed their total support for the candidature of Amb Margif as Gubernatorial candidate taking into cognizance his popularity and acceptability which placed him above other candidates in other political parties. In the light of the above, the group warned that replacing Margif with Dakum would bring about serious negative consequences to the party in the state.

Recall that the August 05, 2022 LP Guber Primary in Plateau State is purportedly orchestrated by Dakum for the purpose of replacing Margif (who emerged after the party Primary earlier held on June 05, 2022) said to have voluntarily withdraw his interest to contest the 2023 Plateau State governorship election.

Margif has (through series of press statements), constantly denied he has withdraw his candidature. This ugly development prompted initiation of reconciliation process between Margif and Dakum by critical stakeholders.
