The Jos Water Services Corporation has begun the rehabilitation of the Foron Water Scheme Pump House as part of efforts to improve water supply in the state.

The Managing Director of the corporation, Mrs Stella Buge, said this on Friday at the official ceremony to kick start the rehabilitation in Foron, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

Buge, represented by Mr Alex Luda of the Quality Assurance Department of the corporation, said that the pump house which was established in 1982 with two boreholes as its source of water broke down more than 30 years ago.

She said that it became imperative for the pump house to be rehabilitated to alleviate the suffering of the community and provide potable water.

“We are here today to flag-off the rehabilitation of the Foron Water Scheme Pump House in Barkin Ladi as part of government ‘s effort to supply potable water to all communities in the state.

“The project which is going to take N15 million and would alleviate the suffering of the people in this area who have suffered for more than 30 years since the water house broke down,” she said.

She revealed that the components involved in the rehabilitation would include changing of pumps, repairs of two generators, changing of electric panels and reticulation of pipes network.

The managing director charged the community members to guard the project jealousy after it is completed to ensure that it was not vandalised by unscrupulous elements.

The Chairman, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Mr Jock Alamba, lauded the state government for taking up the project, promising to ensure that the local government at its level supports the project to completion and maintenance.

Alamba stated that the water project would touch the lives of the people in the community.

Similarly, the District Head, Foron District, the Gwom Rwei, Da Ibrahim Pam-Zi, said that the water project would reduce the number of illnesses contracted in the area due to lack of water.

Pam-Zi stated that he would ensure that the facility was well protected from unscrupulous elements who might want to vandalise the facility.
