As the 2023 International Youth Day is being commemorated, the Plateau State Deputy Governor, Mrs Josephine Piyo, has commended youths in the state for their doggedness, patriotism and positive disposition, despite the numerous challenges they are confronted with.
Piyo stated that the theme of International Youth Day 2023, which is 'Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World' is apt and timely.
She said for the transition to a greener world to be successful, ‘green skills’ must be developed among young people.
The Deputy Governor stated that the green skills which refers to a broad variety of knowledge, abilities, attitudes, and values necessary to advance a society that is resource-efficient and sustainable, will not be achieved without the meaningful participation of youths.
Piyo encouraged the youths to keep developing themselves in order to live meaningful and productive lives and appreciated them for their resilience and doggedness during and after the 2023 polls.
“I want to really appreciate the youths for your doggedness, resilience and patriotism during and after the general elections, we are in government today because of your resilience.
“It is because of your patriotism that you stood and guarded our mandate and we do not take it for granted, it is one of the reasons this administration is sensitive to the issues of youths and have seen youths most holding different positions in the state.
“You are persons with multidimensional talents, abilities and gifts which must be harnessed effectively to enable you achieve your full potentials.
“You are full of ideas that can shape society, building your capacities is beneficial to Plateau State and the nation at large, we are aware of your enormous contributions and we will not let it waste.
Piyo stated that the Barr. Caleb Mutfwang led administration which is youth friendly would give attention to the needs of youths in the state especially on empowerment, education, health and policies that will have direct impact on them.
While wishing them a successful celebration, she urged them to continue to contribute their quota to the peace and unity of the state and shun vices that would affect them negatively.
