Ahead of the Saturday 3rd February, 2024, rerun elections for Plateau North senatorial district and Bassa-Jos North Federal Constituency, former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah Jang have dispelled rumors peddling on social media that he had endorsed candidates of Labour Party, Barr.Gyang Zi and that of All Progressive Congress (APC), Amb. Chris Giwa.

Senator Jang urged the general public to disregard the publication as it is a work of mischief makers.

This was contained in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Jos on Friday by comrade Clinton Garuba, media consultant to Senator Jonah Jang.

According to the statement, "following the absolute fake news that went around the social media space, it has become imperative to state that former Plateau State Governor Dr Jonah David Jang has not endorsed the candidature of Barr. Gyang Zi or Amb.Chris Giwa for the Senatorial seat.

"Senator Jang, like every Nigerian, has his political interest, and rightly so, but that is not Barr. Gyang Zi or Amb. Chris Giwa.

"The general public is advised to take note of this as Senator Jang will disclose his interest after due consultation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership."

Our correspondent reports that, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Thursday 1st February, 2024, barely 48 hours into the rerun elections declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were excluded from the ballot.

The INEC National commissioner in charged of North-Central, Muhammad Haruna, made the disclosure to Journalists after receiving a sensitive election materials at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, zonal branch, Jos.

He stated that the commission's decision to exclude PDP from participating the rerun elections in Plateau premised on the Court of Appeal judgment in Abuja.

Recalled, the panel of Appellate Court Judges sitting in Abuja, led by Hon. Justice Williams-Dawodu had on 22nd October, 2023 nullified elections of former senate minority leader, Simon Mwadkwon and member representing Jos North-Bassa Federal Constituency, Musa Agah.
