Worried by the dissolution and appointment of new heads of Tertiary Institutions in Plateau, the Joint Union of Plateau State owned Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI), have berated state government over what they described as 'politicization of education sector.'

The union believed that the unceremonious removal of former heads of Plateau owned Tertiary Institutions was not done in accordance with the instant laws governing the institutions, calling on the government to revisit its action for the sake of industrial harmony.

Daily Champion reports that the removal of heads of Plateau owned Tertiary Institutions by Governor Caleb Mutfwang with the aimed of sanitizing the system has generated a lot of complaints across the sections of the state.

Among the five Tertiary institutions which their chief executives were dissolved and appointed a new ones includes;Plateau State University (PLASU) Bokkos, Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, College of Education, Gindiri, College of Health Technology Pankshin and College of Health Technology, Zawan respectively.

The Governor also canceled the appointments done in the institutions and other ministries department and agencies (MDAs) between October 2022 and the year 2023 by previous administration of Simon Lalong on the premised that most of the appointment did not followed due process.

Speaking to newsmen on the development at NUJ Secretariat Jos Tuesday, Comrade Sunoe Longbaam, chairman Joint Union of Plateau State owned Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI), revealed the appointment of chief executives of Plateau Tertiary Institutions were done in accordance with the edicts and laws that established those institutions.

"We wander which criteria was used to remove the Heads of the tertiary institutions? The removal of these officers was not in line with the extant laws governing the institutions. With this development the union is shocked with the development especially knowing fully well
that, not long our dear government is a beneficiary of law and justice. 

"We are afraid, these act might be counter productive with gross and unimaginable consequence in the accreditation of our academic programs. As if the damage done with the removals was not enough, again without minding the position of the Edit, we were again confronted with what the government term " Temporary appointment" even where exists Deputy and which by law should rightly be given such position."

On the matter of cancelation of employment, the union said this action will definitely constitute a setback in our tertiary institutions. "The Union wish to encourage that anything worth doing well should be done for a permanent solution and not temporal. 

"Government should note that these institutions have already suffered negligence in the past for too long and not again this time. Our staff have been overwhelmed with overstressed schedules of duty. 

"We wish to request that Government should have a rethink and isolate candidates with questionable issues and reinstate the staff who are qualified and especially those cleared by successive committees in the interest of industrial harmony."
