Plateau Government, thought the Strategy and Result Delivery Office (SRDO), office of the governor, has organised a five-day training on best practices for professionals and other stakeholders in the construction and procurement sectors of the state.
Speaking at the event, Gov. Caleb Mutfwang, represented by his Deputy, Mrs Josephine Piyo, said that the exercise was in tandem with the administration’s vision for the state.
The governor said that the initiative represents one amongst the series of capacity-building efforts aimed at enhancing the public sector for better service delivery.
He said: “the timing of this exercise aligns perfectly with the state government’s ongoing commitment towards advancing quality physical and infrastructural development.
“This is being done through concerted collaboration among the relevant authorities, particularly at the local government level.
“The ongoing challenges regarding infrastructure delivery, evidenced by issues such as scope creep, cost overruns, and inadequate project risk management have resulted in several failed projects and ensuing governmental losses.
“Therefore, I wish to underscore the significance of this initiative to our administration, as infrastructure development remains a paramount priority articulated within the Plateau State Development Framework (PSDF) for the period 2023-2027”.
Mutfwang said that the training would strengthen the capacity of personnel within the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), particularly those involved in procurement and construction practices.
He maintained that it would enable professionals to successfully deliver capital projects, maximise their impact, and establish a robust foundation for future developmental initiatives within Plateau State.
Mr Modibbo Samari, the Head of SRDO, said that the training was to ensure best practices in contemporary construction and procurement processes in the state.
He said that the exercise would also help to promote efficiency and quality service delivery and value for money in the construction sector.
Samari explained that the participants of the training were drawn from various MDAs in the state.
“This is basically to empower officials with standard practices to shape Plateau’s future in the construction and procurement excellence in the state.
“It will enable our professionals in the construction sector to adopt innovative and modern way of advancing infrastructural development.
“We need optimal results, efficiency, effectiveness and value for money in the construction and procurement sectors,”he said.
Participants were drawn from Ministries of Works, Housing and Urban Development, Transportation as well as Higher Education.
Other participants were from ministry for Water Resources and Energy, the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB), Plateau State Road Maintenance Agency, and Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB), amongst others.
