All is set for the launch of WITHOUT A NAME, a book written by Emma Gogwim Kayi, former Editor of The Nigeria Standard newspaper.
The event which is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 9th November, 2024 at the Jonggrand Events Centre, Yakubu Gowon Way, Bukuru, Jos, Plateau State, will be chaired by the Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the 8th Assembly (Federal House of Representatives).
According to a statement issued by the Organizing Committee of the launch, the 438-page book centres on Nigeria. It unfurls the country's past, assets, challenges, gaps and fault lines, as experienced and seen from the eyes of the author, a son of two missionaries; and as a student, journalist and administrator. It also unfolds the opportunities and work begging for attention, going forward.
The public presentation and launch which will commence at 11am of that day, has the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang as the invited Special Guest of Honour, while Mrs. Sarah Reng Ochekpe, former Minister, will be the Chair Lady.
Four former governors of Plateau State, Sir Fidelis Tapgun, Senators Joshua Dariye, Jonah Jang, and Simon Lalong, have been invited to serve as Distinguished Guests at event, while three former Deputy Governors of Nasarawa State, Senator Solomon Ewuga, Prof. Onje Gye-Wado, and Hon. Labaran Maku are the other distinguished guests.
The statement indicated that Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction is the event's Goodwill Ambassador, while Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik will be the Chief Launcher.
Also expected are, the Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly (Chief Supporter), Rt. Hon. Dr. Yusuf Gagdi (Core Supporter / Launcher), with the former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, the Father of the Day, and Retired Justice Philomina Lot, the Mother of the Day.
It added that His Royal Highness, Nde Jika Golit, the Ngolong Ngas, will be the Royal Guest, while Prof. Sam Egwu, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State will review the book.
The statement called on members of the public to spare the time to witness the event.
Emma Gogwim Kayi, the author of the book, was editor of The Nigeria Standard between 1992 - 1993. In company with 6 others, he resigned over the June 12, 1993 election crisis, and was returned to his office in 1994.
Transfered to the mainstream public service in 2007, he was appointed Permanent Secretary in 2013; served in three Ministries, and retired in 2022 in the Deputy Governor's Office.
Dan Agbese, veteran journalist and author, wrote the Foreword to the book.
