A group, operating under the name of Coalition of Genuine Plateau South APC Youths has appealed to the State House of Assembly and the Governor of the state His Excellency Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang to consider zoning of the Speakership Position of the State House of Assembly to the zone in the interest of justice, fairness and equity. 


The group said Plateau South deserves to have the Speakership position in all fairness. 


The group disclosed this in a statement issued by Ponjul Bulus on Tuesday in Garkawa Mikang local government council of the state.


The group was reacting to a statement issued and signed by Mr Nansel Barry, which urged the state members of the state assembly and the Executive Governor to allow the incumbent Speaker of the state House of Assembly Rt Hon Dewan Gabriel to continue to be in office. 


The group leader Mr Ponjul who was flanked by other members of the Genuine APC Youths said that "We have come here today in our numbers to appeal for the zoning of the speakership position to the Southern Senatorial region of the state."


The group added that "it must be stated that the strategic importance of Plateau South Senatorial region in the scheme of things in the state can’t be overemphasized as the region had proved to be that reliable ally when it mattered most especially in Politics.".


"This much has been demonstrated in different electoral circles, including the Plateau Governorship elections as well as others."


"My fellow comrades, in our quest for good governance, we must ensure inclusiveness in the state's governance structure, This is because other Senatorial zone in the state had been adequately represented."


"We appeal that the Plateau South Senatorial region should be accommodated in the leadership of the state House of assembly."


"We have come here today in our numbers to demand the zoning of the speakership position to the Southern Senatotrial district, a no action implies that the Zone would be left out of the scheme of things because the Governor his Excellency Barrister Caleb Mutfwang is from the Plateau Central Senatorial zone, while the Deputy Governor Her Excellency Hon Josephine Piyo is from the Plateau North Zone and that implies that the Southern Zone is the strong contention for a Speakership position”. 


The statement added that zoning the speakership to the Southern zone would entrench the principle of inclusiveness necessary for the growth and development of Plateau state which is essential in the quest for sustainable growth and development. 


The group therefore appealed to the state assembly and the Governor to accept that the Southern Senatorial zone be made to produce the Speakership Postion.


"The group frowned at the statement by a group which insisted that the Speakership Postion should continue to be in the Central Senatorial district saying that such disposition has the potential to brew disunity and a crisis of confidence. 

” The Plateau South Senatorial zone has been noted for loyalty during and after elections", they added. 



” As a group, we have extensively analyzed the list of Lawmakers in the Southern zone of the state and Interestingly, the zone parades credible and competent lawmakers that would do well as Speaker of the state House of Assembly ” .
