The defendant was docked on one count charge of Public office trespassed, an offence that violates Section 94 / 223 of Plateau State Penal Code Law.
However, when the count charge was read to the defendant by the court clerk he pleaded not guilty of the charge.
The complainants, in a direct civil complaint, alleged that the Councillor representing Jenta Apata connived with the landlord's sister to commit this offense on 7th Day of January, 2025.
When the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.
The complainants’ counsel, H.A.Shakmut Esq, thereafter prayed the court for adjournment to enable him prove the case against the defendant.
Granting his plea, the matter adjourned to 17th February, 2025 for hearing.
The complainant, Mr. Istifanus Isa said why the party dragged Defendants to court was due to an apartment domicile at Jenta Apata which they rented as office.
However, the landlord sister took the laws into her hand to invite the Councillor to come and sponsor the repainting of the edifice by cleaning up their party logo when their tenancy hasn't expire.
He explained further that one of the member of APM was just passing through the office and sighted the painter busy painting the office with white paint covering their own logo colour.
According to Isa, "I stopped by to inquire from the painter who gave him the work and then the painter replied instantly that he was instructed to pain the whole building with white paint."
He disclosed that the party took an action to report to Katako Divisional Police headquarters, when the police invited the painter to explain further at the station.
In the like of urgency the police invited the painter and the landlord for more investigation into the issue and the landlord confirmed to the security agency that he wasn't aware of the person who gave him the work.
Istifanus Isa noted that it was at that point that the painter now revealed that the Councillor representing Jenta Apata gave him the work to paint the entire building.
