Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi

Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency at the 10th National Assembly, Rt. Hon Yusuf Adamu Gagdi have unveiled 65 appointees to aid in rejigging the All Progressive Congress (APC) existing structure in Plateau.

Daily Champion reports that the 65 appointees includes; 3 special Advisers, 3 senior special assistant, and 58 Liaison officers.

The 3 special Advisers were APC chairmanship candidates which contested 9th October, 2024, local government elections for Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam alongside their 3 running mates who were to serve as senior special assistants while the councillorship candidates are Liaison officers in the 58 state electoral wards that consist PKK.

Explaining the rationale behind the appointment during the official inauguration of the appointees over the weekend in PKK constituency office, Pankshin LGA, Gagdi acknowledged the appointment is about instigating his constituency activities politically and the APC activities at the grassroots level.

"The survival of our party is more important. We must build and sustain the APC structure for the future — to keep the presidency under our party, to recover what we couldn’t achieve in 2023, and to secure our chances in 2027, including the possibility of producing a governor from Kanke.

"This is strategic because I feel we are the majority at the national level. At the state level, I can say we are 50-50. We have the State House of Assembly, but we don’t have executive powers. And because the executive controls the resources, I believe there’s a need for those councils that won the election but were not declared winners to be acknowledged, especially since they’ve gone to court and the election petition tribunal has ruled equally in all election matters.

"It is about governance. I believe leaving them stranded, with the ideas they have for their own electoral work, is not right. There is a need for me to appoint constituency liaison officers across the 58 state wards that make up the function.

"This will help me:First, to galvanize support.  Second, to communicate community sentiments to me, since I am based in Abuja and Jos. Third, it will help to identify the needs of the people and their priority concerns. These people can liaise with me and help provide updates on ongoing developmental projects.

"For instance, across the 58 federal wards, we need representatives who will update us on the progress of projects such as boreholes installations and repairs. It’s important to know which boreholes are malfunctioning and how we can revive them to ensure people have access to water. With representatives at the ward level and projects spread across polling units, we’ll have over 500–600 locations that need attention.

"There should be people communicating with my legislative aides to harmonize these problems and see how we can address them. The third goal is to ease communication. When I have a policy priority to communicate to the people I represent, I will use them as a network to connect with the local people", he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Gagdi announced that the Special advisors earn N150,000/month,
Senior special assistants earn N100,000/month, and Liaison officers earn N50,000/month."This is not from the constituency project fund. It’s from my personal goodwill. If I can contribute this way, I expect others to do the same."

He also promised to share 61 brand new motorcycles to each of the senior special assistant and Liaison officers worth N1.6million per one as the appointees will sign an undertaking before given them because the motorcycles are meant for constituency assignments.

The Lawmaker who assured appointees prompt payment of their monthly salaries as they received March and April payment.
