A Christian group under the aegis of the Forum for Northern Christian Youths and Abuja (FNCYA), has vehemently condemned the recent genocidal denial by the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Father Hyacinth lormem Alia.
The group said they were shocked by the governor Alia's remarks, taking into account that such narrative represent a stark departure from the governor's previous stance against terrorism.
FNCYA voice out their concern in a statement signed by it's Chairman, Evang. Dr. Ringsum Joshua on Friday and issued to Acenews online in Jos the Plateau State capital.
The statement read in parts:
"The Forum for Northern Christian Youths and Abuja (FNCYA) is issuing a strong condemnation of the recent genocidal denial by the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia. We are shocked and dismayed by the Governor's remarks, which represent a stark departure from his previous stance against terrorism.
"As a Reverend Father, Governor Alia has a moral obligation to be a champion of justice and human rights, rather than a denier of the atrocities committed against innocent Christians in Benue State and other parts of Nigeria.
"His comments are not only unacceptable, but also a betrayal of the trust reposed in him by the people of Benue State, who have suffered greatly from the ravages of terrorism.
"We commend the Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for standing on the truth and rejecting the forces of evil that seek to destroy the fabric of our society. His courage and leadership are an inspiration to all Nigerians who yearn for peace and justice.
"We call on all Christians in Nigeria to disown any individual who seeks to undermine the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and its efforts in promoting peace and unity in the country. CAN has been a beacon of hope for Christians in Nigeria, and we will not stand idly by while its efforts are undermined by individuals/ groups who seek to divide us.
"We also applaud the position taken by CAN in the recent NEC meeting, where it reiterated its commitment to promoting peace and unity in Nigeria.
"We warn any person or group against downplaying the position of the highest Christian body in Nigeria, and we will not hesitate to invoke the wrath of God on those who seek to undermine the work of God.
"The FNCYA stands in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Benue State and other affected areas, and we demand justice and accountability for the atrocities committed against them.
"We will continue to speak truth to power and advocate for the rights of all Nigerians, regardless of their faith or ethnicity.
