As part of efforts to reposition the education sector in Langtang North Local Government, Executive Chairman Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to quality learning and teacher development through strategic investments and training initiatives.
Speaking at the Early Grade Reading Step-Down Workshop organized by the Langtang North Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) for teachers across public schools, Hon. Tyem charged participants to remain steadfast in impacting the lives of the younger generation.
The workshop, held at LGEA Pilot Science Primary School, Dadur, brought together education stakeholders and facilitators to strengthen teachers’ capacity in modern child-centered learning approaches.
Declaring the event open, Hon. Tyem said the council is taking deliberate steps to leverage technology by introducing ICT-based learning to align local education standards with global trends. He also emphasized the importance of creativity and skill development in improving learning outcomes in rural communities.
According to the chairman, the council is considering introducing incentives for outstanding teachers to encourage commitment and improve service delivery. He further commended the Education Secretary, Mrs. Tabitha Jacob Wazhi, for her dedication and various initiatives geared towards revamping the education sector.
Earlier, at a brief presentation held at the Chairman’s Office in the Langtang North Council Secretariat, the LGEA unveiled a flex banner highlighting some of the administration’s major achievements in the education sector within one year.
Among the key achievements listed were:
• Renovation of the LGEA Administrative Office
• Provision of instructional materials to schools
• Procurement of motorcycles for effective monitoring
• Construction of classrooms
• Improvement of staff welfare
• Rejuvenation of National Day celebrations
• Funding of routine monitoring and supervision of schools
• Establishment of good rapport with School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs)
The Education Secretary, Mrs. Wazhi, described Hon. Tyem as “a visionary leader whose passion for education is transforming the learning environment and motivating teachers.”
During the workshop, facilitator Nanji Funturu explained that the Regio Emillio method being introduced would significantly improve pupils’ reading and writing abilities if effectively applied by teachers. She commended the council chairman for his continuous support, especially in improving school infrastructure and promoting teacher motivation.
Also speaking, a participant, Martina John, said the training’s child-centered approach would enhance children’s reading and writing skills and foster creativity. She praised the synergy between the council and the LGEA, noting improvements in teacher welfare, provision of materials, and school renovation. She, however, appealed for a review of teachers’ salary structure.
In her remarks, the Education Secretary said the training was timely, coming at a period when many pupils struggle with literacy skills. She stressed that practical and engaging teaching methods would rekindle pupils’ interest in learning and better prepare them for future challenges.
Mrs. Wazhi concluded by urging teachers to remain dedicated, assuring that the local government would continue to prioritize their welfare and provide the necessary support for effective teaching and learning.
