With barely few weeks to the commencement of political parties primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, aspirant seeking for Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency seat, James Yakubu revealed he is giving a one more shot trial having contested 17 years ago.
Yakubu, a former commissioner ministry of youth and sports Plateau State and chieftain of People Democratic Party (PDP), confirmed he jostled the same position in 2003 and 2007 but couldn't scale through in the secondary elections.
Speaking to Daily Champion over the weekend in Jos, shortly unveiling his campaign office, Yakubu believed the issue of zoning in respect to Jos North Bassa Federal Constituency seat is very sacrosanct as Bassa are serving their turn now and next will be Jos North.
"We have an understanding between Jos North and Bassa that if you go for four years next time the other side should also go, and that is why it ginger me coming out", he stated.
It is pertinent to know that under the PDP platform, James Yakubu is jostling for the party ticket alongside other top contenders such as Hon. David Zoyong who is also held from Jos North as well as Hon. Musa Aggah that won the seat in 2023 elections before his victory overturned by the Appellate Court.
But Yakubu said that is the joy of democracy. Democracy is for the people by the people and for the people. So the essence of people coming out alot to contest is very unique.
"Were all fantastic young vibrant human being. But the key word is that your antecedents in what your looking for is key to showcase your genuineness about what your doing.
"So, all of us were just like marketers we need to go and sell ourselves to the constituents at the wards and let the well of God prevail."
About PDP chances, he acknowledged the party is alive and strong. "We are committed to PDP because of the structure that we always believed in, that is why we in the Northern zone we believe that the structure we built is remain intact.
"We have nothing against governor Mutfwang defecting to APC but we in PDP at the grassroot we said we had a principle that is why we decided to stay where we are. But we wish him well because power come from God and God ruled!
On whether he had confidence with the electoral umpire (INEC) come 2027, Yakubu urged them to work the talk as the people are yarning for free, credible, and transparent elections.
"And I prayed again that out judiciary should stay away from internal party issues. Because you can't go to anybody's home and claim ownership. The founding fathers of that particular object know what is best for that institution.
"So let the judiciary stay off and let the system work. I believe we're heading to a newer dimension, I believe Nigerians are begin to see transparent and genuine leadership by the grace of God", he added.
