A group, Plateau Proactive Youths, PPY, has called on Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State to support the bid by one of the House of Representatives elected members from Plateau State, Honourable Idris Ahmed Maje to become the speaker of the 9th House of Representatives.

The group in a statement by its National Coordinator, Timothy  Dungs on Wednesday  said the position of speaker of the House of Representatives will put Plateau on the high scale of national politics and facilitate many projects and employment opportunities for the people of the state.
The National coordinator in a statement in Jos said a state like Plateau which is in need of development and federal presence, the opportunity of having a high ranking member like Maje who is going to the House for the fourth time comes with  huge advantages that should not allowed to pass.
He said Maje ‎‎in the years he has been in the House, has ‎demonstrated to his constituents that good governance and quality representation are possible by embarking on programmes ‎that have ‎positive impact on his constituents.

The group said: “He has shown committed in improving the plight of his people through commitment to quality education, health, youth ‎empowerment, infrastructural development and quality representation of the interest of his state at the national stage.

“You cannot take away the fact that Hon. Maje is a leader with compassion for the improvement of the plight of the masses and that was why he was made the chairman of the House Committee on Federal Character in the 7th Assembly and he retained the same position during the current 8th Assembly until his elevation to become the Deputy House Leader late last year.”

The group said as chairman of the Federal Character Committee of the House of Representatives, Maje fought consistently to bridge the disparity and imbalances in various states and regions in terms of employment and infrastructural distribution and brought them in line with the constitutional requirement of federal character and in that process distinguished himself as a man of justice, equity and fairness.

The PPY said Maje is one of the few legislators whose contributions on the floor of the House is always sound and laced with wisdom rich legislative experience and deep understanding of national issues.

“He is humble, sound and has a passion for the unity and peaceful coexistence of Nigeria, so Plateau cannot afford not to support and we call on Governor Simon Lalong who knows the value of sound legislative experience to give him all the support as that would accelerate both human and infrastructural development in the state, ‘ he said
