The year 2020 has been one of the most difficult years in world’s history. The Covid-19 pandemic, was not just a threat to human health, it also halted most economic activities globally. As many families lost their loved ones to the pandemic, different countries enforced a total lockdown on all of their communities.

In Nigeria, the situation was not different, the months of April, May and June gradually became very difficult for many families in Nigeria.

Stefanos Foundation within these periods received several distress calls from many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) families, most of whom were formally housed at Zang Secondary School IDP Camp in Bukuru.

It would be recalled that,  with the fall of Gwoza LGA, Borno State to Bokoharam insurgents group in 2014, Stefanos Foundation relocated many displaced ethnic minority religious people, particularly the vulnerable Christians, from Borno to Plateau and Nasarawa States.

After hosting these families for 4 years, the organisation gradually integrated most of them into their host communities and supported them in micro enterprises for daily earnings that would help them rebuild their lives again. Most of these families were already doing well until the Covid19 pandemic and because businesses were all locked down, most of them were under serious threat. They then called out to Stefanos for help.

The organization immediately swung into action, sent its projects team to go to different communities in and around Jos, Plateau State and appealed to partners for support within the lockdown period. The team was able to purchase and distribute palliatives in form of food items to the distressed families.

Areas covered include: Angwan Mission, Vom, Bassa, Bukuru, Gada Biyu/Rukuba Road, Rantya, Tudun Wada, Tina Junction, Abbatoir, Kuru, Trade Center and Zawan. These areas were covered over a span of several days from 22nd April till 23rd June, 2020.

Most of the Beneficiaries reached were families displaced by Boko Haram insurgency from Borno State.  Others were families of victims displaced by militant Fulani herdsmen attacks around Plateau State. In total, about 228 families benefitted from the palliatives' distribution.

Stefanos Foundation appreciates the efforts of its partner, Release International as well as other donors who have  made these distribution possible.

May the good Lord continue to bless those who supported as well as those who went out of their way, risking their lives to take the Palliatives around beneficiaries homes.
