All preparation has been concluded as over 300 professional and Amateur golfers ready to showcase their skills for laurels in the 2024 Plateau Governor's cup golf kitty tournament.


A weeklong golf event slated from Monday 9th to Sunday 15th, 2024, in Lamingo Golf Club, Jos the state capital will witness participation of professionals and Amateurs golfers from Nigeria and other African countries.

Captain of Lamingo Golf Club, Mr. Silas Vem who double as chairman local organizing committee of the tournament, confirmed to newsmen Monday that the tournament has a long standing history on the Plateau as it has been sponsored by the Plateau State Government and friends of the Governor.

He said "this year's tournament has top ranked professionals in the country and some West African countries, beside the large entries recorded for ladies and category one players. We equally introduced the senior tour, super veterans categories and special categories.

"It is a one week of golfing on the rocks, the home of peace and tourism, starting today, Monday 9th to Sunday 15 December, 2024. Activities to mark the week include competition by professional and Amateur golfers; comprising ladies, super veterans, veterans, and regular men.

"Monday 9th- Thursday 12th December, 2024, has been set aside for professionals and category one golfers (men). We are pleased to inform you that today's game started with 92 entries (professionals and category one Amateurs).

"Ladies professionals and men senior tour will slot it out for 3 days starting from the 10th- 12th December, 2024; while the super veterans, 70 years and above and special ladies category course for one day, Friday 13th December, 2024.

The LOC chairman further stated that"Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th December, 2024 is scheduled for over 300 amateur golfers making up of Ladies, veterans and categories 2,3 and 4 to showcase their golfing skills."

Vem also revealed the tee-off is 7:00a.m each day, noting that the official ceremonial tee-off will be taken by the grand patron of the club, Governor Caleb Mutfwang at 10:00 a.m Saturday.

He said there will be a cocktail party in honour of the amateur golfers at 4:00 p.m Friday, 13th December, 2024 as the tournament closes Sunday 15th December 2024 with the presentation of prizes to deserving winners by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

He appeal to citizens of Plateau to accord visitors the hospitality which the state known for "home of peace and tourism", as they look forward to an exciting tournament.
