The Commissioner of Police in Plateau, Mr Edward Egbuka, has described the youths as the greatest asset of the of nation.
Egbuka stated this in Jos when he received children of Initiative for Social Progress who paid him a courtesy visit as part of their celebration of Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary.
He charged the youths to make good use of their time and endeavour to make their families and their country proud by avoiding bad companies.
“The greatest asset that Nigeria has is not the mineral resources, it is not oil, it is not our farm lands, but our youths.
“This is because all over the world Nigerian youths are found to be excellent, and are doing well.
“Recently, they told us leaders and adults that we must do everything to create a Nigeria whereby the drive and ambitions of youths will be given a push to succeed anywhere in the world,” he said.
He advised the children to put the fear of God first in whatever they were doing.
The commissioner also urged them to always obey their parents, teachers, guardians and avoid bad companies.
He advised them to make good use of their time as time waited for no one.
Miss Veirat Ezekiel, Child Wife of the Vice President, in her remarks declared support for the reformation agenda of the Inspector-General of Police.
Ezekiel stated that the only way to have a better police structure that would tackle the ever challenging world of crime was through reformation and sophistication.
She urged the inspector-general to establish one of the best SWAT Units in the world and ensure that men of the disbanded SARS were not recruited into the new unit but graduates and other responsible youth should be given the opportunity to serve their fatherland.
“Their salaries and allowances must be world class, they must be provided with exclusive acommodation and work class welfare packages.
“All agents of the proposed SWAT Nigeria must be provided with cars or motorcycles and granted 50 per cent discount on all social services,” she said.
Mr Patrick Ikpeme, National Coordinator, Initiative for Social Progress, who led the children on the visit said the idea was to nurture the children to become responsible leaders.
Newsmen report that the children dressed in uniforms of different security outfits.
They observed a one-minute silence in honour of those who lost their lives during the #EndSARS protests in some parts of the country.
