Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has express dismay over the inferno at Katako Market where properties worth millions of Naira destroyed.

Lalong said the committee will be set up to look into the constant causes of inferno at the Market.


The Governor made the disclosure after assessing the level of damage at timber B Hausa line that was engulfed by fire on Monday night in Katako market, Jos North Local Government Area.


The fire incident which cripple business and economics activities of Plateau left traders in total despair.


Lalong who was represented by management committee chairman of Jos North LGA, Shehu Usman expressed deep concern over the sad development regretting the reoccurrence of  fire incident at the market each year is affecting the traders and the economy of the state.

He said the committee when Constituted  would work closely with the officials of the market to find lasting solution to the constant fire incident in the area.

while commiserating with the business community of timber B Hausa line over the tragic incident, the Governor assured his administration's readiness and commitment to do everything possible by working closely with the business community to improve the socio economic growth of the state by  providing a conducive atmosphere for business to thrive.

Earlier, Chairman timber B hausa line, Yusuf Buba and a business Man in the market Idris Babale Commended Governor Simon Lalong and the management committee chairman of Jos North Local Council Shehu Bala Usman for identifying with them in their difficult moment.

They however appealed to the state and Local Governments to come to their aid as their only means of livelihood were destroyed.

They also applauded the intervention of  men of the fire service for their quick response.

Our correspondent gather that no life was lost at the scene of the inferno.

Recall this is the second consecutive year inferno engulfed Katako market.
