Nigeria’s former Chief of Defence Staff, General Donkat Bali (rtd) has died, aged 80.

A family source told our correspondent in Langtang on Friday afternoon that the retired army general passed on in Jos as arrangements were been made to fly him to London for treatment.


Bali who is also the Ponzhi Tarok, had been hospitalized for a protracted illness for the past few weeks.


Domkat Yah Bali became the Ponzhi Tarok in December, 2010. He is a retired four-star General of the Nigerian Army. He was Minister of Defence and member of the Supreme Military Council of 1984–1985, and the Armed Forces Ruling Council of 1985–1990.
