The General Secretary of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev. Dr. Ayuba Asheshe, has renew called for harmony, peace and stability amongst diverse religious beliefs as Nigeria hardship skyrocketed.

Asheshe acknowledged that Nigeria is going through trying moments: insecurity, economic hardship, spiritual challenges affecting communities, families and places of worship.

ECWA General Secretary spoke with newsmen recently at the ECWA Headquarters Jos on the state of the nation, advocate for unity responsible leadership ahead of 2027 general elections.

He said elections are approaching and diverse opinions and political positions will fly.Belonging to a political party is a choice, and all parties should aim to bring something to move Nigeria forward as politics is not do-or-die.

"We go to the same market, same school. When insecurity strikes or hardship bites, it doesn't ask whether you are Christian or Muslim. We go through the hall of pain together, we should go through the hall of joy together."

"God gave us Nigeria as a gift to nurture - we must be careful what blocks we lay", he stated.

The clergy also charged politicians to eschew politics of bitterness especially those who are Christians, saying "promote peace in tandem with Bible teachings.

"Religious leaders should continue to provide fatherly  guardians to all candidates while the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should ensure level playing ground for all political parties under them regardless of sentiment.

"We expect a free, fair, transparent, and credible exercise by the INEC come 2027 elections", he mentioned.

He further expressed concern over worsening corruption ravaging the nation taking into account the huge amount of money allocating to the states from the Federal government.

According to him, "If you don't fight corruption, corruption will fight you." In Nigeria, who is fighting who? Some states are performing, some are not. Those not performing should go and learn from performing states", he added.
