DG NMDC, Engr. Prof. Linus O. Asuquo and the permanent secretary Federal ministry of Mines and Steel Development Dr.Mrs. Oluwatoyin Akinlade

Director General/Chief Executive, National Metallurgical Development Centre(NMDC), Engr. Prof. Linus O. Asuquo have stated that insufficient funding is responsible for low pace of development at the centre.

He cited research and development equipment, staff training, overhead, completion of 2No.electric Arc furnace pilot plant as well as operationalization of the lead-zinc pilot plant as some of the challenges of NMDC.

 NMDC DG made the assertion on Wednesday in Jos while hosting permanent secretary Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade in a one day walking visit.

According to him this is your first visit to the centre and it is coming at a time when NMDC is "experiencing transformation in terms of infrastructure renewal and capacity enhancement through the assistance of the ministry through the Mineral sector fund(MinDiver) and the solid mineral intervention fund and also  Government budgetary provision."

The NMDC which was established in 1973 do the following projects; analytical services laboratory, corrosion and surface protection laboratory, telecommunications building, foundry technology workshop, clinic, scanning electron microscopy building and electric Arc furnace building respectively.

Having undergone inspection and ascertain level of development of NMDC, the permanent secretary Federal ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade said NMDC contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria economy.

"No moment than now to revive NMDC. We must all put our hands on deck to achieve this.

"The ministry is working assiduously to better the working conditions of all the parastatals under her", the Perm Sec mentioned.

She also revealed that the Honourable minister of Mines and Steel Development has approved funding for the revitalization of  NMDC laboratories for more efficiency and effectiveness.
