The executive director Perfect Peculiar Foundation, PPF, a non governmental organization based in Plateau State Mrs. Patricia Pam, has warmed that is high time to put to an end discrimination against women living with disability in Nigeria as they are relegated to the background.
She acknowledge that society Should See Women with disability as 'women first' and give them the opportunity to display their God given potentials.
Mrs.Pam made the remarks on Monday in Jos during an interactive session on smashing stereotypes and discrimination against women with disability as Nigeria observed international women day 2021.
Our correspondent learned that the year 2021 international women day has a theme"Choose to Challenge".
According to PPF Chief executive, Women with disability are adding their voices to smash stereotype that is affecting them. One of the discrimination that women face is because of disability, that is why were creating awareness that the community should stop discriminating against women with disability.
"We talk about 35 percent affirmative action how many percent belongs to women with disability? Let discrimination that surrounds the disability be smashed! See woman with disability as woman first. Give her the opportunity I can assure you she should be able to make contribution, she can able to add value because she is also part of the community!
"The woman with disability is not a partial member of the society, but she should be a contributory member of the society. She has her uniqueness perspective, unique skills that she can add to the table. So let show compassion to all women with disability.
"Women with disability should challenge discrimination, should challenge gender based violence, should challenge lack of education, should challenge lack of education, should challenge lack of employment and against anything that makes them to feel less human", she added.
Also speaking, keynote speaker, Jiritmwa M. Goyit pinpoint some steps to be taking to smash stereotypes and discrimination against women with disability these includes; self realization, seeking for education, create awareness.
She warned that as a women folks they shouldn't be the one spearheading stereotypes and discrimination against themselves.
