Following the increase rate of insecurity bedeviling Nigeria, Stakeholders in Jos North Local Government of Plateau State have resolved to partner with security agencies to tackle the menace of kidnapping in schools and other crimes and criminality in the locality.

This forms part of resolutions reached at the stakeholders engagement meeting between the officials of Jos North Local Government Council, security agents, Traditional and community leaders and Heads of schools as well as the leadership of the  National Association of proprietors of private schools held at Jos North Local Government Council Secretariat on Wednesday March 3,2021.

The stakeholders engagement meeting was summoned by the Management Committee Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council Shehu Bala Usman in compliance to the  directive of Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State, for them to step down the resolutions reached at the joint Security Committee Meeting with the 17 Local Government Council Chairmen on Monday 1st March, 2021 on the recent spade  of kidnapping in boarding schools in  Northern Nigeria.

Following the Directive, Management Committee Chairman of Jos North Local Government  Shehu Bala  noted that the targets are poor villagers and ordinary school-children hence the need for the Local Government to engage all the relevant stakeholders to brainstorm on how to improve security and surveillance around schools in Jos to prevent any occurrences within the locality.

Usman emphasized that safety of school children  and vulnerable  villagers is  top most concern of government at all tiers, noting that security is everyone's business. 

He maintained that citizens most join hands with Government to provide relevant information to  various security operatives to forestall any occurrences in Jos and the state at large.

The Chairman National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools Jos North Branch appreciated the concern of Government for its citizenry,saying the Association would intimate all schools in the area in order to ensure they take safety measures to contain any situation  that may arise.

Traditional and community leaders on their part assured of their readiness to synergize with Government and security agencies  to  beef up surveillance and report strange movements in their domain.

Different security operatives at the meeting sought the cooperation of stakeholders to mitigate and prevent any security breach in the locality. The meeting later when into closed door.
