Stefanos Foundation organized a 5-day Trauma Healing workshop for children from communities within Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. The Trauma healing workshop which was aimed at administering healing to Traumatised children, began on 12th July and ended on the 16th July 2021.
The workshop drew children who experienced Fulani Militants attacks on Bassa LGA in recent times. Fulani attacks on communities in Plateau and the Nation at large have left many dead and the survivors and bereaved traumatized.
Stefanos observed that although Children are often the most affected, they are often being neglected and not given room to express what they had experienced.
Stefanos Foundation then organized the Trauma Healing Training of Trainers to help raise more facilitators that help the children. The Workshop drew a total of 31 children between ages 6 to 15 years from Ancha, Oridam, Nkiedowro, Chinye, Rewenku, Zembe, Teigbe, Kpacha, Miango Central and Kwall communities in Bassa LGA, Plateau State.
The participants were housed at a serene accommodation Facility within Jos for the duration of the workshop. The five-day workshop began with an Introductions/Opening Ceremony on the first day. On the Second Day, the treatment of the lessons of the manual began in earnest.
The English version of the Book, “Healing the wounds Of Children’s Trauma” was used as the manual for the lessons, discussions and interactions alongside the “Healing Hearts Club story and activity book”. The Children were divided into 5 groups of 6 and each group was assigned, 2 facilitators.
This was to foster trust and bonding between the children and the facilitators to enable them to open up and share their experiences. The sessions were participatory and included story-telling, role-playing, feedback, question and answers and playlists for each lesson.
The children were also allowed to share their experiences and express their pain through art in form of drawings, poems, laments and paintings.
The workshop ended with the closing ceremony and handing out of certificates. The children as well as their chaperones were full of gratitude at the end of the workshop and prayed for God’s continued provision for the Foundation.
Stefanos Foundation appreciates its Partners, Church In Chains, Ireland for their support in making the Workshop a success.
