No fewer than 19 professors from various disciplines including one female are jostling for the position of the vice-chancellor of the University of Jos following the expiration of the tenure of the former VC, Prof. Sabastian Seddi Maimako, in the month of June this year.


Those shortlisted for the screening exercise which commenced yesterday will be screened by a committee for the plum job. These candidates comprise of professors within and outside the University of Jos.



Our correspondent gathered that those aspiring for the vice-chancellor position include Paul Mamza (ABU Zaria), Wonang David (UNIJOS), Bernard Matur (UNIJOS), Dimis Mailafia (UNIJOS) Wannang Noel (UUNIJOS), Ashom Maisamari (UNIABUJA), Daniel Dabi (UNIJOS) Sylvester Shikyil (UNIJOS) and Yiltok Simon (UNIJOS).


Others are Uriah Alex Lar (UNIJOS), Isuwa Jurmang (Unijos), Tanko Ishaya (UNIJOS), Patricia Lar (UNIJOS), Pam Yakubu (UNIJOS), Adoyi Onoja (NSU, Keffi), Stephen Mallo (UNIJOS), Dung Pam Sha (UNIJOS) and Eugene A. (NSU, Keffi).


The candidate that may spring surprise among them is Prof. Patricia Lar, the only female candidate among the contestants. Lar, a Professor of Medical Microbiology in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Jos, is from Langtang North LGC of Plateau State.
