The Plateau State Deputy Governor, Mrs Josephine Piyo, has said that Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s led administration is committed to sponsoring more Plateau citizens to aviation schools to become Pilots, Aircraft Engineers and others.
Piyo stated this when she received the Association of Plateau Aviators on behalf of the state Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang.
She said that training indigenous manpower for the blossoming aviation sector would contribute to the economy of the nation and contribute to the development of the state.
“We are very proud to be receiving you back home today, this is a very noble profession you have chosen, not so many people tow this line of profession, we are proud to have our sons and daughters as pilots and aircraft engineers.
“The governor is very passionate about the aviation sector as he knows the importance and impact it has on the economy and development of the state, that is why we made arrangements and brought in Value Jet Airline in order to boost economic activities and uplift the transport sector.
“We will be more than happy to sponsor more sons and daughters to pursue a career in the aviation sector, to become pilots, engineers and cabin crew members as we have plans on ground to bring more airlines and revamp the airport to international standards.
Earlier, leader of the delegation, Captain Innocent Samuel who appreciated the Plateau State Government for sponsoring its citizens to study in aviation schools said that the state has the highest number of sponsored students in the country.
Samuel however called on the government to do more in the sponsorship of more citizens to increase the number of pilots from Plateau state.
He said the development of any country and state is measured by the state of its airport, as it is the first point of entrance for any visitor.
He charged the state government to upgrade the Yakubu Gowon Airport to international standard as it would attract international investors, boost economic activities and up the inflow of tourists into the state.
