The Nigerian Red Cross Society Plateau State Branch have joined volunteers in celebrating world Red Cross Day 2025.
The 2025 celebration tagged "on the side of humanity" , culminated with the Red Cross Society 162 years of humanitarian services globally.
Speaking Thursday in Jos the state capital, Nurudeen Hussain Magaji, Branch secretary Plateau State said the theme is apt as it underscored their common struggle in serving humanity.
"We are here to acknowledge and celebrate our humanitarian efforts: serving humanity, helping vulnerable people, and responding to man-made and natural disasters, armed conflicts, and other situations of violence.
"Natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, and tsunamis—these are the challenges we face. We recognize the efforts each of you has made in responding to such situations, and we sincerely appreciate your dedication to humanity.
"Although we may not have much to offer as a reward, we want to encourage you to continue your humanitarian work—especially now, when Nigeria and Plateau State face many challenges, including armed conflict, attacks, growing hatred, banditry, and ethno-religious crises.
"Let us all continue to do our best to support vulnerable people and serve them with compassion and dignity", Magaji noted.
Advocacy and communication adviser, Plateau State Branch, Stanley Jangpak acknowledged the role being played by volunteers and management overtime yield significant development in Plateau and beyond.
He also confirmed that this is the first time they are witnessing massive collaboration.
The 2025 Nigerian Red Cross Society Day heralded with the presentation of certificates to the deserving volunteers for their good conduct and active participation.
The award categories includes;
Youth volunteer champion award, Volunteer of the year 2025 award, Team spirit award
Examplary first aid responder award, Disaster response award
There were staff and lifetime humanitarian award as Bokkos, Mangu, and Riyom divisions emerge the best in disaster reporting while Jos North, Jos South and Kanam got overall best divisions recognition.
