Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, has reiterated his administration’s commitment toward a new era of transparent and credible local government elections in the state.
The governor, who promised a free hand for the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to operate, assured residents that his government will not interfere with the electoral process.
He made the pledge during the symbolic signing of a peace pact ahead of forthcoming Local Government elections slated for October 9th.
The Governor, represented by his deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, emphasised that the peace pact, signed by the 11 political parties that would be participating in the election, aims at complimenting the efforts made by the government and other critical stakeholders towards ensuring peaceful local government polls.
He urged all parties to honour the accord, respect each other's perspectives, and work towards a future where peace, justice, and unity prevail in the state.
Governor Mutfwang noted that the forthcoming elections would pave the way for the much-needed development in the rural communities in the state.
Dr. Julie Sanda, the Director General of the Plateau Peace Building Agency, called on all stakeholders to uphold the peace of Plateau State, reject all forms of violence, hate speech, and political manipulation, and instead champion the values of democracy, fairness, mutual respect, and non-violent conflict resolution.
Mr. Plangji Cishak, the Chairman of PLASIEC, assured the government and the people of Plateau State of a free, fair, and credible election; one that would serve as a model for other states to emulate.
Mr. Chris Hassan, Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), speaking on behalf of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), pledged that they would abide by the rules and maintain peace before and after the election.
Our correspondent reports that amongst the political parties which signed the peace pact includes;All Progressives Congress (APC), ADC, PRP, PDP, YPP, LP, and others.
