The Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Society for the Transfer of Appropriate Sustainable Technology and Expertise (TASTE) Nigeria, Engr. Benjamin Udejiofo has stated that their desire is to always provide a portable drinking water for Nigerian populace.

Udejiofo, said TASTE a Christian based and non governmental establishment since inception is making huge sacrifices, working across the Nigeria communities to ensure clean drinking water and sensitizing the masses on good hygiene and sanitation.

He gave the insight Thursday while handing over a 25,000 overhead litre tank solar power horehole to each of the three communities in Jos, Plateau State.

Our correspondent reports that the gesture is coinceded with TASTE Nigeria 25 years anniversary as the three beneficiary communities are; Kangang in Jos South, Angwan- Rogo and Dutse Uku in Jos North local governments respectively.

The CEO said, "TASTE Nigeria is celebrating a 25 years of humanitarian service for Nigerians, providing portable drinking water and sanitation to end the spread of cholera, typhoid and other water born diseases in the communities."

Explaining the rationale behind the initiative, country director, TASTE Nigeria, Nuhu Yakubu, revealed "We looked at our database, where we have a list of requests from different communities asking for support with access to clean water. We also considered the peculiarities of each community. For Kangan, it’s because of the person who requested the project, Miss Tourism. We thought it would be a good gesture to complete the project this year since she will no longer hold the title next year.

"For Angwan Rogo, it’s a densely populated community with very poor access to clean water. A church that was once part of the community but had to leave due to a crisis reached out, asking if we could assist with providing clean water. They still feel connected to the community and want to contribute in this way.

"As for Dutse Uku, we have been in partnership with Scripture Union West Africa, which has been doing peacebuilding in the community. They believe access to clean water will further strengthen peace efforts there.

"Each project has a storage capacity of 25,000 liters, distributed across five different locations with a total of 10 taps. This setup is designed to reduce waiting times and minimize conflicts over water access. Each project is powered by solar energy, with the capacity to harvest between 20,000 and 23,000 liters of water per day."

He confirmed that TASTE are currently in 18 states across Nigeria, with different projects at various capacities. We have impacted 1,113 communities, reaching about a million people as built clinics, schools, and involved in forest conservation, afforestation, and briquette production through waste management.

However, a 10 year old, little miss tourism Plateau 2023, queen Sariebene Andrea Dara while speaking on what prompted her to lobby for her Kangang community expressed optimism that her dream come to reality.

"I can remember very well as a young girls we always woke up early in the morning, travel far distance searching for water to fetch before going to school. I am happy today my dream came true...."

District head of Rantya, Jos South LGA, Da Fom Gyang who applauded TASTE Nigeria for the noble gesture, promised the community readiness to secure the project as he called on the government to focus attention on providing basic social amenities to the people.
