A philanthropist and founder of Kefiano Global Foundation, Chief Kefas Wungak has handed over a renovated and well equipped accident and emergency (A and E) unit to the management of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for the effective treatment patients with emergency cases.

Ropshik, who emerged runner up during PDP governorship primary in Plateau ahead of 2023 general elections, said the humanitarian gesture is in memory of his late mother, mama Rhoda Danladi who died while on admission in JUTH few months ago.

Unveiling the renovated accident and emergency edifice on Friday at the JUTH permanent site, Lamingo, Ropshik stated that he preferred to be remember for the legacies he impacted on people's lives rather than his riches.

Expressing rationale behind the initiative, he confirmed when his mother was on admission, the hospital, though staffed by hardworking medical professionals, was severely limited in terms of resources. "The casualty and emergency units were overstretched and lacked the essential equipment needed to provide timely and effective care. Tragically, despite the best efforts of the doctors and nurses, my mother's condition worsened, and she passed away.

"In her honour, and in the memory of all those who have suffered due to insufficient healthcare, I embarked on the project to renovate and equip the accident and emergency unit.

"This facility is not just a building; it is a legacy- a tribute to my mother's strength, to her unwavering belief in the potential of the human spirit, and to the countless others who have, like her, faced the harsh realities of a healthcare system that is in dire need of attention.

"It is a call to action. It is a call to all individuals who have are privileged enough to have the means to make a difference to step forward and contribute to the betterment of our society.

"We cannot, in good conscience, allow the status quo to persist. We cannot continue to allow our hospitals to remain underfunded, our healthcare workers to remain under-resourced, and our communities to suffer as a result. The time has come for us, as society, to take responsibility and invest in the health and well-being of our people", Ropshik added.

He also announced donation of N5 million to aid in reimbursement of the treatment of first 34 patients admitted in accident and emergency unit and other essential items.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by secretary to the government of Plateau, Arch. Samuel Jatau, commended Chief Ropshik's compassion, empathy and demonstration of love to the vulnerable persons, saying the gesture aligned with the government desire towards improving healthcare delivery.

"It is on this note that my administration had invested so much on Plateau Specialist Hospital through the recruitment of top-notch medical consultants and rehabilitation of the burnt down laboratory to cater for the health needs of our people.

"We are also investing so much on the Plateau State Contributory Health Insurance Agency  (PLASCHEMA) to provide affordable and effective health services for the vulnerable groups in the state such as children, pregnant women, the elderly and the entire Plateau residents."
